Fat Larry James (né Lawrence Edward James; May 27, 1949 – December 19, 1987) was an American musician and songwriter. He was the band leader and drummer for the group Fat Larry's Band, which had hits in the 1980s with songs such as "Act Like You Know" and "Zoom".
James was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and began playing drums as a child. He formed Fat Larry's Band in the 1970s, and the group gained popularity in the disco era with their funky dance tunes. James was known for his energetic drumming style and his ability to lead the band on stage.
Tragically, James passed away in December 1987 at the age of 38 due to complications from a lung infection. However, his music continues to be celebrated by fans of the disco and funk genres.
